2025 5th Taiwan Sustainable Investment Forum & TWSIA Awards Ceremony Concludes Successfully
The 2025 5th Taiwan Sustainable Investment Forum and Awards Ceremony, hosted by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), took place on June 20, 2025, at the Far Eastern Hotel in Taipei. Titled "Green and Transition Finance in the ESG Paradigm Shift," the full-day event drew 1,004 participants (728 online, 276 in-person) from financial institutions, industry leaders, government officials, academics, and the public to discuss sustainability trends and pathways for transition finance.
TAISE Chairman and Forum Convener Eugene Chien stated that Taiwan's financial sector has achieved maturing ESG-integrated investment strategies under the FSC's "Green Finance Action Plan 3.0," with sustainable investment scales growing steadily. He noted that over the past five years, the Taiwan Sustainable Investment Awards have witnessed significant progress by domestic financial institutions in sustainable investment practices—from developing ESG assessment tools and designing investment processes to nurturing professional talent and fostering cross-institutional collaboration for industry transitions—demonstrating strong resilience and innovative momentum that lays a solid foundation for the financial system's sustainable development.
FSC Chairman Peng Jin-Long stated in his remarks: Sustainable development has become an indispensable core element in corporate decision-making and operations.
The forum presented major Taiwan Sustainable Investment Awards alongside multiple keynote speeches. In the morning session, TAISE Chairman Eugene Chien delivered the opening address titled "Building a Resilient and Trustworthy New Order in Sustainable Finance," reviewing profound global financial reforms since the UN's 2016 "Silent Shift" initiative. He stressed "risk, resilience, and trust" as three core elements Taiwan's financial sector cannot overlook, analyzing how major markets in Europe, the US, and Asia have strengthened climate risk management, stress testing, disclosure requirements, and anti-greenwashing measures—while Taiwan accelerates alignment with ISSB and TCFD standards, develops national climate risk databases, and introduces green product labeling regulations to position itself as an Asia-Pacific sustainable finance hub.
S&P Global Sustainable Development Solutions Director Po-Yung Chung followed with "Leveraging CSA Data to Drive Sustainability and Investment Decisions," explaining how high-quality data and scientific metrics enable investors to precisely measure corporate ESG performance, enhance decision-making transparency, mitigate risks, and generate stable returns.
The afternoon session began with TAISE Secretary-General Lily Chou unpacking global transition finance trends, highlighting GFANZ's four key strategies, trustworthy planning with risk safeguards, and lessons from UK and Japan practices with tailored recommendations for Taiwan. Presidential Advisor Jong-Chin Shen then shared six national decarbonization action plans under climate policy, recent amendments to the Industrial Innovation Act to drive net-zero transitions in high-emission industries, and real-world manufacturing case studies showcasing Taiwan's progress. Taiwan Academy of Banking and Finance Chairman Chung-Ta Lei closed with "Hybrid Finance: A New Solution to Accelerate Net-Zero Transitions," advocating public-private "blended finance" models—using catalytic capital, credit enhancements, and global alliances—to channel private funds into high-risk areas, bridge transition funding gaps, and advance energy shifts and nature conservation in Taiwan.
Beyond keynotes, the event featured a "Taiwan Sustainable Investment Best Practices" spotlight panel with award winners sharing success stories: Fubon Securities Investment Trust Deputy GM Sherry Chou, Yuanta Securities Investment Trust Manager Chi-Yuan Chiu, and Cathay Securities Investment Trust President Yong-Chuan Chang (representing Cathay Financial Holdings). The gathering drew strong attendance from financial institutions, industries, central/local government agencies, and academic experts.
