2018 Global Corporate Sustainability Forum in Taiwan
In 2018, the international community and global corporations ratified their commitment to the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) as well as to the Paris agreement. To promote sustainable development and responsible investment Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (A·SDGs) invited enterprises and research institutions from all around the world to Global Corporate Sustainability Forum (GCSF) to be held at the Taipei Grand Hotel from November 22 to 23. The Forum aims to connect Taiwan with the international community to discuss the current global trends and progress on sustainable education as well as creating many business opportunities. Vice President Chien-jen Chen, Ambassador Eugene Chien and the Vice Chairman of the Financial Supervision and management Committee, Chuang-Chang Chang precede the forum together.
The theme for GCSF this year is Actions for Corporate Sustainability. The main events include both the Global Corporate Sustainability Awards (GCSA) as well as the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA). The forum and award ceremonies invite a series of special guests who are from Deloitte, EY, and PwC will deliver speeches. Besides, there are several events including the workshop held by The Local Governments for Sustainability council (ICLEI), annual sustainability summit of BSI Taiwan, and the conference held by the National Taipei University College of Business. Furthermore, the CSR Academic Paper Award and the Enterprise Sustainability Manager are also in schedule.
The first GCSA features two major awards. First, Vice President Chen awards the GCSA-Professional to Mr. Christopher Wellise, the sustainability officer from Hewlett-Packard Enterprise (HPE), as well as to Mr. Paul Peng, Chairman of AUO. The GCSA-Reporting goes to Siemens Aktiengesellschaft, HPE, Far Eastern New Century Corporation, and Sinyi Realty Inc.
The award winning highlights for the “Best Report” category is unequivocally Siemens with “Pictures of the Future”. The content is exhilarating and presents a clear blueprint of the company’s innovation as well as their future research and development goals. The HPE Living Progress report delivers its comprehensive information through a friendly and innovative design and presentation. The content of the webpage is comprehensive and provides an optimal user experience. A number of external links provide stakeholders with real time information regarding HPE performance and useful data. Far East New Century’s report is well balanced; it displays its determination for sustainable development and responds to the concerns of various stakeholders. The TCSA, popularly known as the Oscars for enterprises in Taiwan, has been running for eleven years. Vice President Chen also awards the TCSA Top 10 Most Sustainable Corporate, TCSA Top 3 Most Sustainable Foreign Corporate, and TCSA-Professional among others. The TCSA Top 10 Most Sustainable Corporate has attracted attention from a variety of industries and the current champion is TSMC. The second, E. SUN Financial Holdings, is the only one from financial sector. Other corporates include AUO Optoelectronics, Delta Electronics, Sinyi Realty, CTCI, China Steel, Far Eastern New Century, ASUS Computer and Taiwan Mobile. Among the foreign companies, receiving awards are Panasonic Taiwan, 3M Taiwan, Minnesota Mining Manufacturing Co. Ltd, and Standard Chartered. The TCSA-Professional goes Xu Xu-Dong, Chairman of Far Eastern Group, and Yan Wen-Long, Chairman of China Trust.
It is worth mentioning that this year, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy and the Taipei University Business School collaborated to compile the Taiwan Sustainability Index (TSWI). For the past three years, the TCSA has been recognizing model corporates that excel in sustainability practices. After considering risks, the investment performance is better than the broader market, Taiwanese 50 index and Taiwanese Sustainability Index.
The forum brings together experts and scholars from over 10 countries including The United States, The United Kingdom, Australia, Sweden, Japan, Thailand, Indonesia, Philippines, Laos and Hong Kong. The Forum also features experts and scholars from over 10 countries and regions, 100 international guests, and over 1,500 attendees. The organizers look forward to presenting about the excellent performance and business models of SDGs and CSR. Not only does the forum strive to promote corporate sustainable development but also to let the world witness the best Taiwan has to offer regarding sustainable practices.
