Safeguarding Our City: Air Quality Monitoring and Response System
Taoyuan City, the industrial heartbeat of the region, is facing growing air pollution due to rapid population growth and increased traffic. To address this, the city launched the Air Quality Monitoring and Response System.Key measures include:
1. Industrial Monitoring – 1,000 smart sensors track emissions in industrial zones. Data is public, and residents can report abnormalities for quick inspection.
2. Campus Protection – Real-time air quality dashboards in schools provide PM2.5 updates every 5 minutes and offer forecasts and health tips. Currently, 72 schools and 80,000+ students benefit.
The system features real-time alerts and fire simulations. Within 10 minutes of a fire, it models pollutant spread and sends alerts to neighborhoods via LINE.
Results:
• Protecting 72 elementary schools and over 80,000 students while providing environmental education.
• Factory/warehouse fires in 2024 fell 28.7% versus the 2019-2023 average.
• PM2.5 dropped 20.7% from 15.4 (2019) to 12.2 µg/m³(2024)
Taoyuan’s model boosts public health, disaster readiness, and environmental education—setting a standard for smart urban air management.
