IC The Future – STEM Basic Science and IC Education Promotion Program
As Taiwan’s semiconductor and IC design industries continue to drive global innovation, the nation faces an urgent challenge: a growing shortage of skilled professionals in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM). Synopsys Taiwan’s multi-tiered educational initiative responds to this challenge by building a strong, inclusive, and sustainable pipeline of STEM talent—ensuring decent job opportunities for future generations while reinforcing national economic resilience.
Taiwan’s semiconductor sector, which significantly contributes to national GDP and exports, currently faces an annual shortfall of approximately 3,000 skilled IC professionals, with projections indicating a talent gap exceeding 20,000 by 2030. This shortage, compounded by demographic trends and global talent competition, represents a risk to long-term growth.
Synopsys’ strategy directly addresses SDG 8.5 (full and productive employment for all), SDG 8.6 (reducing youth NEET rates), and SDG 8.3 (development-oriented policies supporting productive employment, entrepreneurship, and innovation).
