TAISE Partners with Southern Taiwan Science Park to Cultivate Cross-Sector ESG Evaluators
Amid dramatic changes in the global political and economic landscape and increasingly severe climate risks, corporate sustainability has evolved from a philanthropic initiative into a core strategy essential to business competitiveness. To help companies accurately understand the latest international sustainability disclosure requirements, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) once again partnered with the Southern Taiwan Science Park Bureau under the National Science and Technology Council (NSTC) to organize the "Corporate Sustainability Elite Training Program – Foundation Course" at the Southern Taiwan Science Park Incubation Center. The program attracted 39 professionals and senior executives from various industries. Focusing on the practical application of the updated evaluation framework, the training combined comprehensive theoretical instruction with hands-on exercises to cultivate sustainability professionals capable of conducting high-quality assessments for the industry.
A Comprehensive Transformation of Evaluation Indicators:
Companies Must Shift from Reactive Responses to Proactive Action
As the World Economic Forum (WEF) identifies geopolitical conflicts and economic confrontation among the most pressing global threats, climate and sustainability risks have already evolved into substantial operational challenges. During the opening session, Consultant Chen of the Corporate Sustainability Research Center at National Taipei University emphasized that companies must fundamentally transform their approach to preparing sustainability reports. ESG is no longer merely a matter of regulatory compliance or public relations and marketing; it has become a core strategy for reshaping corporate supply chain competitiveness. Companies should therefore shift from reactive responses to proactive action.
In response to these developments, the new TCSA 2.1 evaluation indicators have undergone significant revisions. In addition to maintaining fundamental dimensions such as information completeness, credibility, and communication effectiveness, the revised framework places substantially greater emphasis on strategic implementation and compliance with forward-looking sustainability standards. The updated system integrates leading international disclosure frameworks and standards, including the Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD), Sustainability Accounting Standards Board (SASB) standards, and the latest International Financial Reporting Standards sustainability disclosure standards (IFRS S1 and S2). These developments guide companies in transforming extensive sustainability data into high-quality, financially connected disclosures, enabling them to respond to investor and supply chain customer expectations with greater transparency.
A Key Force Influencing Taiwan's GDP!
Thousands of Volunteer Evaluators Strengthen the Awards' Position as a Sustainability Benchmark
Over the years, the TCSA Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards have attracted numerous benchmark organizations, with the combined revenues of participating companies accounting for a substantial proportion of Taiwan's national GDP. The awards' influence extends across businesses, higher education institutions, healthcare organizations, and government agencies. CEO Cheng of the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy explained that the key to the awards' widespread credibility lies in their exceptionally rigorous and transparent evaluation mechanism.
CEO Cheng particularly emphasized that since the Foundation established its volunteer evaluator training system in 2015, it has cultivated more than 3,400 qualified evaluators. This mechanism not only enables citizens and professionals from diverse backgrounds to participate in the evaluation process but also helps companies develop ESG assessment professionals with practical capabilities. Together, these efforts have created a sustainability ecosystem that positively encourages companies, universities, hospitals, NGOs, and government organizations to participate in sustainable development initiatives.
Putting Theory into Practice!
Mentors Provide On-Site Guidance for Hands-On ESG Report Analysis
Another major highlight of the training program was its intensive hands-on evaluation exercises. Participants were divided into groups to review corporate ESG reports, assess evaluation indicators, and present their findings. CEO Cheng, Platinum-Level Volunteer Evaluator Chang, and Gold-Level Volunteer Evaluator Chen were invited to form the mentoring team, providing immediate guidance and professional feedback on each group's evaluation approach and analytical reasoning.
The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy stated that it will continue to expand its training capacity and integrate resources from industry, government, academia, research institutions, and civil society to jointly guide Taiwan's industries toward becoming benchmarks for sustainable transformation.
