2027 Taiwan Sustainable Architecture Awaed
2027 Third Taiwan Architecture Sustainability Awards Open for Submissions
Sustainability Advancing Throughout the Building Life Cycle and Leading the Way for the Building Industry
The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) has announced that the “2027 Third Taiwan Architecture Sustainability Awards” are now officially open for submissions, with registration available through November 27, 2026. Amid the global transition toward net zero, climate change, and the rapid advancement of smart technologies, buildings are no longer merely structures that provide space; they also bear diverse responsibilities for energy conservation and carbon reduction, health and safety, smart management, and urban resilience. This year’s awards continue to invite construction companies, contractors, architectural firms, and building-related professionals to participate and work together to create new models of sustainable architecture that integrate environmental, social, and governance (ESG) values.
TAISE Chairman Chien stated that the building sector plays a critical role in achieving global net-zero emissions, and the development of sustainable architecture is evolving from a traditional focus on energy-efficient design toward a comprehensive approach encompassing low carbon, health, resilience, and smart management. With the rapid development of artificial intelligence (AI), the application of AI in building energy management, equipment monitoring, space management, and operations and maintenance can not only improve building operational efficiency but also help reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions. In the future, AI-powered smart buildings will become an important direction for enhancing the competitiveness of the building industry.
In recent years, countries around the world have actively promoted net-zero buildings, existing building renovation, and smart building development. Across building planning, design, construction, and operational management, a building life-cycle management approach is increasingly being adopted, taking into account energy efficiency, resource circularity, healthy environments, and user experience. At the same time, companies and investors are placing greater emphasis on the sustainability performance of buildings, making buildings not only important assets for corporate operations but also key vehicles for demonstrating brand value, strengthening organizational resilience, and implementing ESG.
Unlike traditional approaches that focus solely on architectural design or a single green building certification, the Taiwan Architecture Sustainability Awards use ESG as their core framework to comprehensively assess the overall performance of buildings throughout their entire life cycle—including planning and design, engineering and construction, operations and maintenance, and management—from the perspectives of corporate governance, environmental sustainability, and social inclusion. The awards encourage the building industry to advance sustainable development through systematic thinking and establish sustainable building models that create environmental, social, and economic value.
This year’s awards continue to feature four major categories: the “Architecture Sustainability Distinguished Contribution Award,” “Architecture ESG Comprehensive Performance Award,” “Architecture Sustainability Award,” and “Individual Architecture Leadership Award.” Among them, the “Architecture Sustainability Award” is divided into two groups based on project type: new construction projects and renovation and maintenance projects. The awards encourage new construction projects to incorporate sustainability principles while continuing to advocate for the renovation and maintenance of existing buildings more than 20 years old to extend their life cycles and put the concept of “Extending Building Life Means Reducing Carbon” into practice. The “Architecture Sustainability Distinguished Contribution Award” recognizes key contributors who have long been dedicated to the field of sustainable architecture and have promoted industry development and professional innovation, jointly advancing Taiwan’s building industry toward sustainable development.
TAISE stated that the Taiwan Architecture Sustainability Awards have selected a total of 38 outstanding building projects to date, eight of which have received Platinum recognition. The award-winning buildings span a diverse range of sectors, including manufacturing, finance, office buildings, and cultural facilities, demonstrating that sustainable building concepts have been widely integrated into different industries and public spaces. TAISE looks forward to seeing more outstanding building projects participate in the awards in the future, showcasing their sustainability achievements through the Taiwan Architecture Sustainability Awards, establishing industry benchmarks, and working together to create a low-carbon, healthy, smart, and resilient built environment.
