Ms. Ming-Chu Feng, Vice President, Kaohsiung Municipal Siaogang Hospital, Taiwan
Ming-Chu Feng has dedicated her long-term career to the field of geriatric mastication, swallowing, and oral care. In 2018, she founded Taiwan’s first Mastication and Swallowing Center. By integrating interdisciplinary and interprofessional teams, she established a comprehensive, integrated care pathway encompassing screening, clinical assessment, and longitudinal follow-up.
Furthermore, Ming-Chu Feng successfully incorporated Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) principles into geriatric care. She spearheaded digitalized screening initiatives and expanded healthcare delivery to remote and indigenous communities. Through strategic collaborations with 11 academic institutions and 65 long-term care facilities, she has cultivated over 10,585 interdisciplinary professionals, generating a verifiable Social Return on Investment (SROI) of 16.9371.
At the institutional and policy level, her advocacy successfully prompted the National Health Insurance Administration (NHIA) to incorporate "nasogastric tube (NGT) removal and restoration of oral intake" into the national reimbursement scheme, thereby establishing an institutional incentive mechanism centered on functional recovery. In recent years, she has facilitated the establishment of six mastication and swallowing centers both domestically and internationally, and signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with New Zealand, systematically advancing Taiwan’s clinical care models onto the global stage.
