Pingtung: Building a Resilient, Inclusive, and Low-Carbon City of Hope
With the vision of “Building a Sustainable City of Hope,” Pingtung County addresses climate change, aging, and regional disparities through citizen participation, governance, and international cooperation, moving toward a resilient, safe, inclusive, and sustainable livable city.
Putting people first, Pingtung promotes community certification, low-carbon initiatives, watershed management, wetlands, waterfront revitalization, and century-old irrigation culture, creating spaces where people and nature coexist.
To address extreme weather, the County advances water governance, disaster resilience, and energy transition through Dachaohu Artificial Lake, Linbian River governance, photovoltaic zones in subsidence areas, Indigenous microgrids, and aquaculture insurance.
Pingtung also develops low-carbon transport, circular agriculture, biogas power, green buildings, water pollution control, marine waste management, social housing, cultural and biodiversity conservation, and urban renewal.
Through VLRs, SDG-based governance, CDP participation, and 1.5 GW of renewable energy capacity, Pingtung supports green electricity trading, moving toward a resilient, low-carbon livable city.
