Powering a Safe Haven for Little Terns
Vena Energy’s Yizhu Solar Farm Ecological Collaboration Program demonstrates how renewable energy development can support biodiversity conservation through habitat co-creation. Since project inception, approximately 30% of the site has been reserved as an ecological conservation area. In partnership with the Kaohsiung Wild Bird Society and Tunghai University, the project continuously improves habitat management through ecological monitoring. In 2025, habitat enhancement measures, including artificial island optimization, predator-exclusion fencing, and water-level management, improved breeding conditions for ground-nesting birds and supported the return of Little Terns. Through the Little Tern Trilogy initiative, more than 70 participants from businesses, schools, and local communities joined habitat restoration efforts by creating and installing tern decoys. The conservation area recorded 30 bird species, a peak count of 1,194 waterbirds, 435 Black-faced Spoonbill sightings, and a 41% breeding success rate for Kentish Plovers. The project demonstrates a scalable model integrating renewable energy, biodiversity conservation, environmental education, and community participation.
