Faster AI-Powered Air Pollution Warnings: Air Pollution Incident Emergency Monitoring System 2.0
As an industrial city with dense warehouses, Taoyuan faces public health challenges from fire pollution. The Department of Environmental Protection (DEP), Taoyuan City Government pioneered a local automated warning mechanism. Launched in August 2025, the "Emergency Monitoring System 2.0" integrates fire data, NOAA HYSPLIT simulation, GIS overlays, and LINE alerts to issue warnings within 10 minutes. The system automatically extracts fire data, runs real-time dispersion models, and delivers village-level alerts, ensuring transparent risk disclosure. Average simulation time improved from 22 minutes (2024 manual) to 7 minutes (fully automated, July 2025), and reached 6 minutes in 2026, increasing operational efficiency by over 70%. By April 2026, automated activations reached 75 cases, serving 2.2 million residents and prioritizing schools. Aligned with SDG 11.6, 3.9, 11.B, and 13.1, this tool works with the "Taoyuan City Fire Prevention Autonomy Ordinance" (1,218 entities regulated), creating a dual-engine structure combining source- prevention and real-time response by DEP.
