Building a Childcare-Friendly City
In response to changing family structures and employment patterns, demand for childcare services has increased. Taichung City has introduced childcare-friendly policies, including expanding public childcare services and affordable childcare programs, to reduce parents' financial burden. As a childcare-friendly city, Taichung City places SDG 3 Good Health and Well-Being at the core of its childcare policies, while integrating SDGs 1, 4, 5, 8, 10, 16, and 17. Through public childcare expansion and affordable childcare programs, the City is reducing parents' financial burden. Supported by quality management measures, it has established a childcare system that is accessible, affordable, safe, and high quality. The goal is to create a childcare environment that embodies equity, quality, safety, and sustainability, enabling every child to grow in a safe and age- appropriate setting. It also allows parents to entrust their children to childcare services with confidence, reduces the burden on parents, raises the female labor force participation rate, promotes work-life balance, and advances gender equality.
