Cross-Sector Sustainability Action Program
In response to the lack of sustainability education for children, the Child Welfare League Foundation (CWLF) launched the Innovative Sustainability Action. By combining digital media with interactive activities, the program creates age-appropriate, locally rooted learning that brings sustainability into daily life. Children are encouraged to explore through multisensory experiences, making complex topics more relatable through storytelling, play, and emotional connection.
To expand its impact, CWLF collaborates with schools, businesses, nonprofits, and communities to co-develop flexible teaching materials and bring sustainability education into classrooms, homes, and public spaces. The program fosters five core competencies: observation, critical thinking, collaboration, empathy, and responsibility. Through interactive and family-based activities,children are encouraged to connect knowledge with emotional expression and participation, while parents are supported in strengthening their role in early education. Moving forward, CWLF aims to expand networks and promote a scalable and replicable model that empowers more children and families to participate in sustainability action.
