The 2022 15th Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards: Comprehensive Performance - Top 100

The 15th Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award: Comprehensive Performance
Taiwan's 100 Most Sustainable Companies Revealed

The 15th AnnualTaiwan Corporate Sustainability Awards (TCSA), known as the Oscars of Corporate Sustainability in Taiwan, has announced the winners of the "Corporate Sustainability Overall Performance Category - Taiwan's Top 100 Sustainable Companies," which is not only an important indicator of ESG investment for investors but also a key force in stabilizing society and leading Taiwan's progress. The 15th Annual TCSA, organized by the Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Institute (TCSI), has a record high of 424 participants, a 29% increase from last year. 48 universities, 21 hospitals, and 20 government agencies participated in the awards this year. This year, 48 universities, 21 hospitals, and 20 government agencies participated in the awards. The cumulative number of participants reached 581, accounting for 76% of the market value of Taiwan's listed companies, and their combined annual turnover and government budget reached 36.13 trillion, representing 167% of Taiwan's GDP in 2021.

TSMC and Yushan Financial Holdings both ranked among the top 10 manufacturing and service companies

In the face of the growing threat of extreme climate change, TSMC is committed to implementing greenhouse gas emission reduction measures and has set short-, medium- and long-term reduction targets, with the goal of achieving net zero emissions by 2050. In addition, TSMC is actively working with its industry partners to continue to take sustainable actions in ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) to expand its green influence and bring together industry partners and stakeholders to create a sustainable future.

The first place in the service industry category of the "Top 10 Sustainable Companies" was once again awarded to Monte Jade Financial Holdings. Yushan Financial Holdings has developed its insistence and pursuit of ESG sustainability into a concrete and implementable blueprint for sustainable development, and has delved into the four major aspects of business management CSOP (Culture, Strategy, Organization, and People): building a sustainable corporate culture, in strategy, organization, and human cultivation. In the greenhouse gas emission reduction section, Monte Jade has also taken the lead in setting challenging targets and is the first financial industry in Taiwan and the second in Asia to pass the Science Based Target Initiative (SBTi) target review. With 30 sustainable years ahead of us, we hope to build a bright and exciting future through the hands of generations of Yushan people.

Hon Hai and Yuanta Financial Holdings Selected as Top 10 Sustainable Companies for the First Time

In its operation, Hon Hai has taken the double E formula "sustainable management = EPS + ESG" as its guiding principle and is committed to implementing sustainable management across the global territory. As for the responsibility of raising the next generation, Hon Hai has launched the "0 to 6 years old company-supported" subsidy program for Taiwan employees, which has greatly increased employees' willingness to raise the next generation, and the retention rate after childbirth is as high as 90%. In the face of the increasingly serious climate issue, we have committed to achieving the goal of zero carbon emission by 2030 for our office locations in Taiwan and by 2050 for our production locations. In addition, we are actively working with all employees, supply chain partners, and peers to continue to engage in environmental sustainability, social participation, and corporate governance in order to move towards a sustainable future with unlimited possibilities.

With the spirit of "fulfilling your biggest dream", Yuanta Financial Holding has adopted the dream of "DREAM" as its sustainability goal and has implemented sustainable development in five major areas: corporate governance, customer rights, employee care, environmental sustainability, and social welfare. In order to maintain uninterrupted financial operations, Yuanta has implemented meticulous epidemic prevention strategies and established standardized work processes, becoming the first financial institution in Taiwan to pass the ISO/PAS 45005 COVID-19 Guidelines for Work Safety during Epidemics, helping the government to stabilize people's livelihood. We are the first financial institution in Taiwan to be certified under the "ISO/PAS 45005 COVID-19 Work Safety Guidelines", helping the government to stabilize people's livelihood. In addition, we have and incorporated the ESG concept in our operation strategy and actively work together with our stakeholders to promote a better future for future generations.

Sinosteel returns to the list of top 10 sustainable companies

In the face of climate change and carbon reduction issues, Sinosteel has set up the "Sinosteel Energy Saving and Carbon Neutral Promotion Group" under the Corporate Governance and Sustainability Committee of the Board of Directors to actively implement energy saving and carbon reduction and greenhouse gas emission control to reduce the impact on climate and the environment, and to set short-, medium- and long-term carbon reduction targets, proposing "to reduce emissions by 7% by 114 years, 22% by 119 years, and to achieve the specific goal of carbon neutrality by 139 years". In addition, we have been promoting carbon emission reduction in steel and chemical co-production and other actions, insisting on pragmatic steps to achieve the difficult challenge of carbon neutrality. In addition to the "Corporate Governance 3.0 - Sustainable Development Blueprint", we will also take the initiative to disclose information on ESG issues and implement sustainable management, so that we can steadily advance toward the path of a century-long enterprise.

Rigorous review mechanism to select the top 100 sustainable companies in Taiwan

The Award's convenor, Ambassador Eugene Chien, said that the Taiwan Corporate Performance Category is a comprehensive assessment of corporate sustainability and ESG performance, and is in line with international standards and evaluation criteria, including international evaluation methodologies, and is based on eight categories: "Corporate Sustainability Vision and Strategy," "Corporate Governance Performance," "Financial Performance," "Climate Governance and Energy Management Performance," "Environmental Sustainability Performance," "Social Inclusion Performance," "Supply Chain Management Performance," and "Compliance or Reward Performance. The top 17 companies in the manufacturing and service industries were selected through a preliminary selection process and review process with core members. The overall ESG performance of these companies is comparable to that of most of the world's leading brands and is already world-class. Ambassador Chien further expressed his gratitude to the jury members who participated in this year's competition. 577 volunteer judges and 297 renowned experts and scholars were invited to participate in this year's competition. This year's award-winning companies will once again become the focus of investment institutions' choices and fresh university graduates' job searches.

This year's award ceremony is once again held in conjunction with the 5th GCSF Global Corporate Sustainability Forum (GCSF) from November 16 to 18, with a gala event for 1,000 people.
