Five Key Sustainability Highlights Linking Industry, Government, Academia and Research for Sustainable Action
The opening ceremony of the 2022 Asia Pacific Sustainability Expo Forum and the Asia Pacific and Taiwan Sustainability Awards Ceremony was attended by 11 chairmen, 2 vice chairmen, 21 general managers, 13 vice presidents, 6 school principals, 10 vice principals, 9 hospital directors, and many heads of government agencies.
Organized by the Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (A-SDGs) and co-organized by the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Training Center, Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Award, and Taiwan Corporate Sustainability Institute, the 2022 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo will focus on the practice and innovation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The opening ceremony of the 2022 Asia Pacific Sustainability Expo, which focuses on the implementation of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and innovation in industry and academia, was held in conjunction with the 2022 Asia Pacific and Taiwan Sustainability Awards ceremony on August 12 (Friday) at the stage area of Taipei World Trade Center Hall 1. Vice President Lai delivered the opening speech and presented the trophies to the outstanding winners. The Director General of the Department of Construction, Ministry of the Interior, Mr. Wu Xin, Director General of the Central Weather Bureau, Ministry of Transportation and Communications, Mr. Cheng Ming-tien, Director General of the Bureau of Industry, Ministry of Economic Affairs, Mr. Lu Zhenghua, Director General of the Bureau of Industry, Ministry of Economic Affairs, and Mr. Yang Wei-fu, Executive Director of the Chinese Institute of Engineers. A total of 23 presidents, 35 general managers, 26 vice presidents, 14 school principals, 17 vice principals, and 18 hospital directors attended the ceremony with great enthusiasm.
The 2022 Asia-Pacific Forum & Exposition for Sustainability),The Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE), under the guidance and planning of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of China, the Environmental Protection Administration of the Executive Yuan, the Forestry Bureau of the Council of Agriculture of the Executive Yuan, and the Alliance for Sustainable Development Goals (A‧SDGs), organized the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE). TAISE invited government agencies, corporations, finance, universities, social enterprises, NGOs, media, sponsors and strategic partners to join the event and gather the achievements of sustainable actions in Taiwan. "The 2022 Asia Pacific Sustainability Expo is the first and largest sustainability exhibition in Taiwan, with five major sustainability highlights, namely (1) Asia-Pacific Sustainability Expo, (2) Asia-Pacific Sustainability Summit, (3) Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainability, (4) Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards, and (5) Road to Net Zero Initiative, combining the results and energy of sustainable actions from all backgrounds in Taiwan.
In his opening speech, Ambassador Chien said, "At the end of March 2022, the National Development Council announced Taiwan's net-zero emission pathway and strategy, and the theme of all TAISE events this year focused on the implementation and practice of net-zero actions. This is definitely the most important step in the history of sustainability in Taiwan. We also hope that the event will stimulate more cooperation and business opportunities and showcase the achievements of Taiwan's sustainability initiatives to the world.
He further pointed out that there are six themes in the Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Expo and Summit: Sustainable Policies, Sustainable Cities, Sustainable Businesses, Sustainable Universities, Sustainable Living, and Sustainable NGOs, with a total of 291 booths. The Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Summit held four summits: (1) Sustainable Cities Summit, (2) Sustainable Transformation Summit, (3) Sustainable Wellbeing Summit, and the (4) Sustainable Innovation Summit. 28 sustainability experts, government leaders and corporate representatives shared their sustainability achievements in each session. The Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainability consisted of five action forums: (1) "Seminar on Promoting Sustainable Development of Reclaimed Water and Environment" organized by the Department of Construction, Ministry of the Interior; (2) "Central and Local Sustainability Exchange Forum" organized by the Environmental Protection Administration, Executive Yuan; (3) "Forum on Promoting Net-Zero Transformation Toward Sustainable Development" organized by Chunghwa Telecom; (4) "Hydrogen Energy Forum" and (5) "Carbon Capture, Storage and Reuse Forum" organized by Taiwan Alliance for Net-Zero Emission.
2022 Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards List Revealed
The Taiwan Sustainability Awards (TSAA), in conjunction with the inaugural Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Awards (APSAA), have announced the winners. The organizers would like to thank the judging panel of 69 experts and community leaders for their rigorous, objective and fair selection process. The excellence in sustainability performance and individual cases has improved significantly compared to previous years, and we hope that with the joint efforts of all sectors and people, we can create a better sustainable home for the present and future generations. In particular, the first APSAA attracted 41 entries for the SDGs, with a total of 63 entries. 44 sustainability projects were selected for recognition (1 Grand Award, 14 Gold, 12 Silver and 17 Bronze). Each award-winning case fully demonstrates the sense of mission and the results of the participating organizations' efforts to achieve the goal of sustainable development in the United Nations. The diverse implementation of each program has created social benefits and impact, fully demonstrating the abundant vitality of all sectors in promoting sustainable development, which is an exemplary example for all sectors.
Road to Net Zero Initiative
The A-SDGs invited the organizers and various sectors to hold the "Road to Net Zero" initiative launch at 11:00 a.m. on August 12, the day of the opening. The "Road to Net Zero" initiative launch event will be attended by distinguished guests, including Huang Jincheng, Vice Chairman of the Council of Agriculture, Executive Yuan; Lin Bofeng, Chairman of the Public Association of the Republic of China (ROC); Wu Dongliang, Chairman of the Taiwan Association of Industry and Commerce, a founding member of the Alliance; Guo Shui-yi, President of Chunghwa Telecom; and Chu Li-wen, President of Taipei 101, a strategic partner of the Asia-Pacific Forum for Sustainability. They expressed their determination to join the Net-Zero Future Initiative and looked forward to the fruitful results in the future.
Visit the exhibition to drink ecological coffee and potentially draw prizes
To encourage people to participate in the fair and learn about contemporary sustainability issues in Taiwan, TAISE planned a lottery with a total value of more than 300,000 TWD. In addition to the famous brand BESV PSA1 electric bicycle, iPad Air 64GB, Far Eastern Department Store and SOGO Department Store gift certificates, Fair Trade Ecology Green Coffee Gift Box and Fotongyuan Essential Oil Maintenance Gift Box, the prizes were also full of sustainable connotations, allowing people to visit the fair to enrich their knowledge of sustainability and also enjoy sustainable gifts.
The General Convenor of the Exposition, Ambassador Eugene Chien, recognized the outstanding performance of various sectors on the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (UN SDGs).
Vice President Lai Ching-te said the Taiwanese government will budget for the transition to net-zero carbon emissions by 2030.
