Moving toward green healthcare via innovative action—A case study of Taipei Medical University-Shuang Ho Hospital in Taiwan
Shuang Ho Hospital is the medical center of Taipei District. Having 3,500 employees, 1,600 beds, 8,000 outpatient visits, providing acute and severe medical services. As a key development area of biomedical corridor, we have passed multiple JCI certifications. Whole hospital adopts green architectural and won the honor of International Environment Friendly Hospital in 2016, committed to SDG14,15 sustainable vision. Under leadership of boards, we responded of COP15 actively, including nature-based action, first medical long-term cooperation, achievement of net zero sustainable hospitals in 2050. We have protecting ecological stability with excellent performance. Including reduce 18 metric tons of plastic bags in 15 years, recycling 5,400 kg medicines, 94,645 kg waste, 182,136 kg carbon dioxide per year. We also introduced digital intelligence to achieve paperless of medical records, reduced 6,000 felling trees, set multi-line shuttles for public to reduce ecological impact, reaching to 1,072,188 passengers, implemented green procurement more than 7 million NT annual average. We protect and maintain biodiversity by holding green belief of earth, preventing environmental degradation.
