Protecting Children's Hearing: Holistic Healthcare for Childhood Hearing Loss Efficiency Enhancement Project in Paraguay
Childhood hearing loss is one of the most common global disabilities. The impacts of childhood hearing loss are experienced throughout life and include delayed language development, poor academic performance in childhood, and limited employment opportunities in adulthood. Over the past few years, we have launched a holistic healthcare project for childhood hearing loss at the National Taiwan University Hospital. The innovative solutions we have developed, including “Early detection through comprehensive newborn screening strategies,” “Precision medicine empowered by new-generation genetic examination,” “Digital healthcare driven by intelligent cloud platforms,” and “Integration of care services by the strengthening of interprofessional collaborations,” have remarkably reshaped screening, diagnosis, and treatment protocols in clinical practice. By providing hearing-impaired children with high-quality coordinated care and enabling them to develop to their full potential, our solutions resonate the UN vision articulated in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development of a “just, equitable, tolerant, open and socially inclusive world in which the needs of the most vulnerable are met.”
