Forge cross-border exchange: the practice of Satoyama and social integration of the Laiji tribe
The Laiji tribe in Alishan, known as "the eternal tribe under the Tashan Mountain", though rich with cultural heritage and craftsmanship, the tribe faces crises such as the aging and exodus of residents. Under similar circumstances, the Furukawa, located in Japan, known as "the most beautiful village in Japan" and the Mishima in Japan, listed as intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. They have proud cultural traditions and are committed to developing local traditions. As the Chinese saying goes, "A stone from other hills may serve to polish jade", through this project, we learn from their practices and business models by sharing respective regional issues and knowledge from achievements. In addition to strengthen global partnerships for sustainable development (SDG17), promote cultural inheritance (SDG11), create local cultural products (SDG8), utilize natural resources in the community (SDG12), and exchange sustainable forest management experiences (SDG15), the project also allow better understanding of Japan’s resource allocation for local creations to drive region development and achieve international sharing and social integration through international exchange.
