Public welfare education combining labor, service and learning
Tunghai University supports more than 300 needy students yearly through student labor and creates campus life via virtual currency platform, where students obtain Coolcoins via courses and services, supporting nearly 800 students yearly. Combining cleaning and learning for full SDG understanding and practice incorporates sustainable education, linking industry, government and academia by bringing students into localities for cleaning while instilling sustainable education, and participate in USR/CSR projects to benefit society. This proposal targets SDG1, 4 and 6. Seven general courses with 6 teachers and 5985 learners have been conducted 62 times; more than 30 community service sessions have been conducted with 7 schools (120 students), 23 sessions and 1335 participants, who agree it promotes campus identity (82%), highlights waste and earth issues (92%), increases sustainable education literacy (80%), precision, rigor, empathy etc. Labor, services and a sustainable model provide safe education for needy students and apply SDG through diverse activities, structurally impacting environmental and social sustainability and establishing paradigms for education and community development.
