From "Near Zero Papermaking to Net Zero Smart Papermaking", CLC Activates the Virtuous Cycle of Industry
CLC has been established for over 60 years. By combining the five smart papermaking strategies: subtraction—reducing resource consumption; materials—waste energy; AI—smart production-sales; recycling—reuse recovered paper; and technologies—advanced processes (S.M.A.R.T.) with the total circulation of three resources: products, energy, and water, we have transformed ourselves from a traditional manufacturer into an eco-friendly smart recycling manufacturer. As Taiwan’s largest recovered paper recycler, we recycle 40% of recovered paper up to 1.8 million MT into eco-products at an annual utilization rate of 92.7%, reducing carbon by around 10.4 million MT each year.
To deepen a circular economy and accelerate upgrading of local recovered paper suppliers, we introduced the “Recovered Paper Suppliers Upgrading Guidance Program” in 2018 to help 144 suppliers and frontline collectors in Taiwan to build up a sustainable ecosystem through practical supply chain management. In addition, to reduce residual waste by 50% and enhance the quality of domestic recovered paper, and we even transform the residual materials into solid recovered fuel (SRF) bars. Additionally, we created the “First Paper Maker Completely Recycled Food Paper Containers” in Chupei Mill, Taiwan through value-added transformation of R&D and technology to build up a food paper container recycling business model. Not only do we have realized carbon and plastic reduction, but we have also helped process the surge of used food paper containers due to the COVID-19 pandemic to relieve the burden of environment. With the goal of expanding the recycling efficiency and benefit, we have planted 66k MT recovered bleached pulp lines in Tayuan Mill (commercial operation by the end of 2022) to further extend our operation toward upstream pulp development and create a win-win circular business model. From "Near Zero Papermaking to Net Zero Smart Papermaking", we will continuously activate the virtuous cycle of industry.
