NIU Green Tourism and Sustainable Agriculture Initiative
From 2023 to 2025, National Ilan University (NIU) advanced a responsible green tourism and sustainable agri-food initiative that turns university knowledge into local economic value. Centered on SDG 12, it integrates curriculum design, digital interpretation, farmer-market collaboration and field-based guidance. NIU connected 110 practice sites, including 58 in Yilan and 52 outside Yilan, and developed 18 Yilan Smart Green Travel apps for courses, farm experiences and community activities. With the NIU Farmers' Market, eco-friendly farms and public agencies, NIU organized 50 food-and-agriculture, seafood education and green tourism activities with 675 attendances. NIU also supported 14 experiential agriculture tours, 3 smart green itineraries and 2 certification applications. Through USR Hub activities, 32 industry mentors and field partners supported 8 course visits, 10 practitioner-led lectures, 10 exhibitions and 65 student project teams. The initiative strengthens responsible consumption, reduces food miles, supports fair pricing for smallholders and builds a replicable university-government-industry-community-farmer sustainable collaborative action model.
