Chi Mei Love & Care: A Sustainable Action Model for Equitable HIV-Friendly Healthcare SDG 10- forward
Chi Mei Love & Care is a hospital-wide sustainability action that reduces a specific inequality: the stigma and discriminatory practices that deny people living with HIV equal, dignified access to care. Anchored in SDG 10, it treats HIV-related discrimination as a measurable systems problem and engineers it down, so that HIV status no longer changes which department will treat you, the dignity you receive, or where you can age and live. Governance, care pathways, staff learning, community partnership, and discriminatory administrative routines were redesigned so respectful, equal care becomes the default. The model advances SDG 3 (equal access drives better health) and SDG 17 (co-produced with the affected community), contributing to SDG 4, 5, 12, and 16. By 2025 a categorical long-term-care exclusion was overturned, perceived discrimination fell, and care spread across every department, while same-day treatment reached 100%, retention 98%, and viral suppression 99%. Progress is tracked with the internationally validated QIS+D instrument, showing how a hospital can make equality the design principle of everyday care.
