A Diverse New Vision: Partnering with Chiayi Migrants
Since 2018, this project has promoted health equity and social inclusion for new immigrants and migrant workers in the Yunlin–Chiayi region through healthcare education, community engagement, and international collaboration. Integrating general education and nursing expertise, it has engaged 377 faculty and nearly 6,000 students through 23 interdisciplinary courses and 216 community activities. Aligned with Taiwan’s New Southbound Policy, the project focuses on multiculturalism, health promotion, caregiving capacity building, and international engagement. It has established 25 domestic and international partnerships and reached over 10,200 participants. Outcomes include improved cross-cultural competencies, health literacy, caregiving skills, international cooperation, and community participation. SROI analysis demonstrates benefits for students, faculty, migrants, healthcare organizations, communities, and government agencies. By integrating DEI into healthcare education and practice, the project strengthens workforce readiness, promotes safer caregiving, and fosters inclusive communities. The model creates sustainable social value and advances the SDGs.
