SMART INNOVATION FOR SUSTAINABLE YUNLIN Smart Air Pollution Control × Digital Carbon Reduction
Smart Environmental Governance for Net-Zero Transition The Yunlin County Environmental Protection Bureau has developed an innovative smart environmental governance model integrating digital SMS notifications for motorcycle emission inspections, AI-powered license plate recognition with real-time LED and voice alerts, and vehicle emission remote sensing technologies. From 2023 to 2025, digital notifications replaced paper reminders, reducing 21.63 metric tons of COe emissions and eliminating over 99% of emissions associated with printing and mailing. The initiative also reduced administrative costs and manpower requirements. By combining AI recognition, real-time alerts, remote sensing, and big-data analytics, the project improves inspection compliance, enhances identification of high-polluting vehicles, and strengthens air quality management. As a standardized and highly replicable model, the project supports SDG 3, SDG 9, SDG 11, SDG 12, SDG 13, and SDG 17, providing a benchmark for smart environmental governance and net-zero transition across Taiwan and the Asia-Pacific region.
