			National Ilan University

Rooted in the Local, Acting Together with the World
National Ilan University (NIU) pursues sustainable development across its operations, teaching and research. NIU is committed to greenhouse-gas management, energy efficiency, waste and resource circulation, water stewardship, air-quality assurance and green building. In 2023 NIU completed its first ISO 14064-1:2018-based campus carbon inventory and adopted 2023 as the baseline year. By 2024 total emissions had fallen by 36% compared with the baseline, an achievement that highlights NIU’s determination to reach net-zero by 2048. Beyond operational gains, NIU has invested continuously in biodiversity research, education and outreach for twenty-one years (2003-2024), allocating roughly NT$1.17 billion to ecological surveys and monitoring, conservation, invasive-species control, soil organic-carbon sequestration, pesticide monitoring, tree-planting for carbon reduction, breeding and propagation, forestry studies and the cultivation of biodiversity talent. These integrated efforts underpin the University’s vision of being "rooted in Yilan, connected to the world" while advancing the UN Sustainable Development Goals.
