The Green Heart of a Shared City – Taichung Central Park
Taichung Central Park, spanning 67.35 hectares, is the largest metropolitan park in Taiwan and a pioneering symbol of sustainable urban transformation. Converted from a former military-civilian airport, it aligns with the Shuinan Economic and Trade Park’s vision of smart, low-carbon, and innovative development. Designed around six themes—comfort, ecology, landscape, disaster prevention, carbon reduction, and recreation—the park includes three barrier-free trails, twelve sensory zones, five detention basins, ecological bridges, and over 10,000 trees, forming a vibrant urban green lung.
Solar PV panels generate 1.8 million kWh annually; reclaimed water supports irrigation and sanitation, promoting circular resource use. Smart systems monitor operations, while biodiversity surveys, a volunteer program, and museum partnerships enrich education and engagement. The park integrates resilience, nature, and technology, serving as a living showcase for SDGs 6, 7, 11, 13, and 15—bringing to life a greener, smarter, and more inclusive city for future generations.
