Powering Ocean Protection for Ecological Balance
For decades, Taiwan Power Company (Taipower) has advanced marine conservation through coral restoration in Nanwan, fish release, and joint coastal cleanup programs, supporting SDG 14. These efforts are built on long-term partnerships with local governments, academic institutions, NGOs, and communities, reflecting SDG 17. Marine education (SDG 4) and local engagement (SDG 11) help stakeholders recognize the electric power industry’s role in environmental protection, reinforcing support for SDG 7 and 13.
At Nuclear Power Plant No. 3 and nearby waters, Taipower has worked with academic partners since 1989 on coral surveys, monitoring, and education. The fish release program, now in its 23rd year, has released nearly 33 million juvenile fish, with 25% of yellowfin seabream caught in 2024 traced to the program. Since 1994, Taipower has held annual coastal cleanup programs on World Cleanup Day. In 2024, over 5,500 participants cleaned 15 coastal sites across 10 counties, removing 5.8 tons of waste. In the past decade, 175 tons have been cleared, reducing more than 360 tons of carbon emissions.
