Negative Carbon, Zero Carbon—Net Zero Emission for Carbon
Globally, industrialization and rising energy demand have greatly increased emissions, intensifying the greenhouse effect and accelerating climate change. This project focuses on reducing CO₂ emissions through the development of zero-carbon green energy and negative-carbon technologies, such as carbon capture and utilization (CCU). By addressing both current emissions and atmospheric CO₂, the project supports Taiwan’s 2050 net-zero goal. The developed green hydrogen technology achieves an electrolysis current density over 20,000 mA/cm²—far beyond the commercial benchmark of 500 mA/cm²—demonstrating high hydrogen production efficiency. This has drawn interest from industry partners. Meanwhile, the CCU technology surpasses commercial standards with a conversion current density over 100 mA/cm² and product conversion rates above 60%. Key outcomes include: CO conversion rate of 98% (594 mA/cm²), formic acid conversion rate of 98% (1,960 mA/cm²), and ethylene conversion rate of 66% (1,716 mA/cm²).
By advancing green hydrogen and CCU in tandem, the project effectively lowers net CO₂ emissions, contributes to SDG 13: Climate Action, and promotes clean energy solutions aligned with SDG 7:
