Green Carbon Alliance, create a green forest life
In response to climate change and the global net-zero movement, the Taichung City Government launched the “Taichung 2050 Net-Zero Pathway” in 2022, followed by the 2023 “Sustainability and Net-Zero Autonomous Ordinance.” This ordinance outlines five frameworks and ten strategies, including a focus on afforestation to boost carbon sink resilience.
Taichung allocates annual budgets for afforestation on public lands, covering over 11 hectares across districts. Since 2021, the city has also collaborated with enterprises to promote voluntary carbon reduction projects. In 2024, Taichung and TSMC co-applied for the “TSMC Taichung Da’an Coastal Afforestation Voluntary Carbon Reduction Project”—the nation’s first registered coastal carbon sink project. This effort highlights Taichung’s carbon reduction leadership and showcases an effective public-private-academic partnership model.
Aligned with six UN Sustainable Development Goals(SDGs)—primarily SDG13 and additionally SDGs 11, 12, 14, 15, and 17—the project adopts a replicable six-step model: eligibility review, baseline and additionality analysis, afforestation and monitoring, project documentation, third-party validation, and registratio
