Co-Creation for an Age-Friendly City
In response to global aging, Yuanpei University of Medical Technology in 2023 implemented the “Age-Friendly Cities and Communities Promotion Program.” The project integrated medical expertise, elderly care, and community engagement to create a sustainable and inclusive environment for older adults.
In this project, the interdisciplinary team conducted surveys across 13 townships, collecting 587 responses based on eight WHO age-friendly domains. These efforts identified key challenges and informed localized policy recommendations. Health assessments were provided to over 700 elderly participants, thereby contributing to a county-level database on elderly health. Over 300 local stakeholders, including civil servants, volunteers, and drivers, joined 20+ training sessions, laying the foundation for sustainable community support. Additionally, 24 digital lessons on healthy aging were produced.
A cross-sectoral platform with county departments was also launched to guide strategy and implementation. The project successfully established a replicable governance model, strengthened policy, and integrated university expertise into curriculum and outreach.
