Model Taiwan: A Sustainable Cittaslow Approach with Golbal Vision
This project aimed to spot Cittaslow as a model for establishing sustainable township. Since 2013, Nanhua University has engaged with the Cittaslow International headquarters in Italy and integrated its seven dimensions with SDG 11, particularly in infrastructure, urban quality of life, and civic engagement. The project has successfully supported Dalin (Chiayi), Zhutian (Pingtung), Chishang (Taitung), and Dongyin (Lienchiang) in becoming certified Cittaslow towns. The university’s USR team began in Dalin and expanded efforts through the Cittaslow Taiwan Alliance and international collaboration with universities in Chiang Mai, Thailand. The project includes three core actions: 1) Sustainable slow food Earth markets and low-carbon farming: supporting Yunlin farmers in joining the Slow Food international association, and promoting circular economy initiatives; 2) Eco-tourism and cultural innovation: linking interdisciplinary student programs with local infrastructure through food, media, and AI; and 3) Cross-border co-learning and design thinking: creating workshops focused on aging, youth mental health, and the green economy. This project also addresses SDGs 2, 4, 8, 12, and 17.
