A Diverse New Vision: Partnering with Chiayi Migrants
This project aims to promote social inclusion by addressing challenges faced by new residents and migrant workers in Chiayi—cultural adaptation, healthcare, language barriers, and civic participation—in alignment with SDGs 3, 5, and 10. In 2024, it created an inclusive practice platform through three themes: Cultural Empowerment, Sports and Nutrition, and Building Care Capacity, highlighting the role of higher education in fostering equity and intercultural understanding.
The project helped migrants express identity, gain recognition, and engage in society through care-giving workshops, multicultural carnivals, podcasts, and global seminars. Over 100 activities were held across three major themes, reaching nearly 4,000 participants and building partnerships among new residents, migrant workers, students, faculty, public agencies, NGOs, and international allies.
With strong outcomes—enhanced health literacy, cultural understanding, and student empathy—the project earned high satisfaction (avg. 4.8) and received the 2024 Global Views USR Award, Asia-Pacific Sustainability Action Award, and Sustainable University Award, serving as a model of inclusive and sustainable education.
