Revival of Lok-lin Food Bank for Sustainable Communities
Since its establishment in 2019, Loklin Food Bank has transitioned from a traditional charity to a self-sustaining social enterprise through the strategy of “Cherishing Food, Sustaining Food, and Creating Food.” It serves over 2,000 vulnerable individuals monthly by implementing community food fridges, operating a mobile grocery truck, developing food processing technologies, and empowering women through training and employment. Notably, 57% of its current staff are former recipients who have successfully rejoined the workforce. In collaboration with government, academia, and international partners, Loklin advances SDGs 1, 2, 3, 8, 12, and 17. The initiative also tackles local agricultural surplus by turning excess dragon fruit into value-added dried goods and enzyme products, now exported to Japan. Loklin has become a model of rural revitalization and sustainable food banking across the Asia-Pacific region.
