Healthy Farmers, Sustainable Agriculture
Agriculture supports sustainability and food security, yet frontline workers face long-overlooked risks like pesticide exposure and musculoskeletal injuries.
To address this, NTUH Yunlin Branch launched Taiwan’s first Center for Environmental and Occupational Health in Agriculture in 2023 to protect farmers’ health and promote sustainable farming.
The Center’s four main actions:
1.Forming a dedicated agricultural medical team,
2.Conducting on-site work visits,
3.Creating Taiwan’s first agricultural health risk database (764 surveys, 685 checkups),
4.Promoting education, training, and policy advocacy.
These efforts align with SDGs 3.9, 8.8, and 10.3.
Between 2023–2024, the Center issued 10 occupational disease reports; 7 were approved by the Bureau of Labor Insurance—ranking among the top of 17 designated hospitals. It also assisted with claims and return-to-work support.
A pioneering HRV–air quality model enhanced early warnings for occupational illness. With 39 field visits completed, the “Yunlin Model” is now expanding to Chiayi, showing potential for broader adoption and global exchange.
