Love Spreads across the Highlands: Building an Educational Network for Poverty Alleviation in Nepal
This project, led by Professor Teng Huang of Fu Jen Catholic University, is grounded in the core vision of “Education for All,” focusing on addressing structural poverty and barriers to education in impoverished communities in Nepal. Initiated in 2020, field research identified key challenges such as bonded labor families trapped in cycles of debt, lack of access to clean water, and gender inequality—factors that severely disrupted children's education and daily life. The team implemented a dual strategy of short-term emergency relief and long-term structural intervention. Immediate support included the distribution of essential supplies, while long-term efforts addressed systemic issues through household water pipe installations, debt relief, tuition subsidies, and the development of gender equity education. Simultaneously, the project introduced the “Local Action Inquiry”curriculum model, integrated into teacher education at Fu Jen and extended to local primary and secondary schools in Taiwan. The initiative combined resources from the Ministry of Education and engaged cross-sector partners from education, business, and local communities, forming a sustainable, scalable education
