Smart Mobile Medical Unit — Promoting Rural Healthcare Equity and Sustainable Health Management
Kaohsiung Veterans General Hospital’s “Smart Mobile Medical Vehicle Project” integrates AI and mobility technologies to deliver real-time health screening, disease management, and education to rural and aging populations in southern Taiwan. The vehicle is equipped with DXA, ultrasound, chest X-rays, and multilingual systems to ensure accessible and culturally inclusive care. Since launch, it has served over 21,000 people in remote areas, reducing travel burdens and cutting CO₂ emissions by 28.94 metric tons annually. Early detection of osteoporosis and sarcopenia has improved outcomes and saved NT$14.4 million in healthcare costs. The project supports SDGs 3, 8, 9, 10, 11, 13, and 17, and builds cross-sector partnerships to create a scalable model for sustainable, inclusive mobile healthcare.
