The brightest "Tribal Star" in the night sky: Intelligent HEAlth for RemoTe areas
This sustainable action plan stems from NYCU’s long-term social responsibility project, implemented in the Atayal tribe of Nanao, Yilan. Over six years of in-depth fieldwork have revealed the systemic medical, cultural, and economic challenges faced by local indigenous communities. In response, the team constructed culturally grounded knowledge modules designed for long-term impact and replicability.Aligned with the SDGs, the project emphasizes “cultural sustainability education,” valuing multiculturalism and the dynamic nature of indigenous cultures. The action area covers seven Atayal villages—Nan'ao, Dongyue, Bihou, Wuta, Jinyue, Jinyangzi, and Aohua—with around 6,000 residents, highlighting a critical need for inclusive development.Driven by the belief that sustainability must be rooted in cultural identity, the plan ensures that local communities can connect with its methods and outcomes. The Tribal Star model integrates placemaking, cultural identity, and knowledge system building, producing measurable results across economic, social, and educational domains. It is a replicable, scalable approach to fostering resilient indigenous communities.
