To address health inequities and the digital divide, this project promotes inclusive oral health education through AI and digital technology. Led by the School of Dentistry at National Yang Ming Chiao Tung University, the initiative combines an AI-based caries risk assessment system (DMFT-AI) with interactive digital tools such as XR modules and a virtual oral health platform.
Rooted in over 40 years of community outreach, the project shifts traditional manpower-driven care into a scalable, tech-enabled model. The AI system enables real-time caries detection in children, while mobile-accessible QR code modules deliver personalized, age-appropriate oral health content.
Piloted in schools and communities across New Taipei, Yilan, and Chiayi, the program has improved early diagnosis rates and oral health awareness. With high scalability and adaptability, it provides a sustainable solution for advancing oral health equity in Taiwan and across the Asia-Pacific region.
