Hospital Infrastructure and Equipment Investment Program (PIIEH) - Republic of Guatemala
The Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) provides financing to execute the Hospital Infrastructure and Equipment Investment Program (PIIEH) in Guatemala, aiming to promote health equity by upgrading five hospitals and delivering culturally appropriate maternal, neonatal, and emergency care to approximately 6.6 million underserved Guatemalans.
The PIIEH is supported by a total financing package of approximately USD 312.1 million, comprising USD 114.2 million from CABEI’s ordinary capital, USD 79 million from the Republic of Korea’s co-financing facility, and USD 118.9 million in national counterpart contributions from Guatemala. Implementation is led by the Ministry of Public Health and Social Assistance (MSPAS) of Guatemala through its dedicated Special Unit for the Execution of Health Programs and Projects (UEPPS).
The initiative focuses on replacing three structurally at-risk hospitals in Mazatenango, Jutiapa, and Cobán, and restoring two others in Sololá and Chiquimula. Each site follows CABEI-aligned Environmental and Social Management Systems, using advanced methods like BIM, modular MEP, and turnkey contracts to speed up construction and cut costs.
