Kickstarting Urban Governance in Kaohsiung: Towards a Livable and Sustainable Future
Kaohsiung City is committed to creating a livable urban environment. We advocate for citizen participation in planning, accelerate the formation of industrial clusters, and cultivate high-tech talent. We have established an agricultural smart disaster prevention platform, promoted drainage improvement in flood-prone areas. The completion of the circular light rail line and ongoing development of MRT network, as well as government green bonds are realizing sustainable transportation. We have instituted air quality maintenance zones and restrict single-use plastics and lodging supplies. Furthermore, our diverse housing policies ensure housing justice. We promote Hakka culture and restore cultural heritage for reuse. We carry out bridge maintenance to enhance resilience. We actively engage in climate governance, from policy, education, finance, public-private cooperation to budget evaluation, covering carbon neutrality and adaptation, thereby accelerating the city’s transformation into a livable city. Through annual VLR reports in both Chinese and English, we showcase policy highlights and areas for improvement, leading Kaohsiung to become the livable city its citizens aspire to.
