Buddhist Compassion Relief Tzu Chi Foundation

Tzu Chi Foundation has established liaison offices in Africa since 1992, using local materials and manpower to guide African people to learn to help themselves and others. Malawi is the eighth country in Africa that Tzu Chi has provided assistance to. About 55% of Malawi's population lives below the poverty line, and its per capita GDP is only US$600. It is rated by UN as one of the least developed countries in the world. We entered Malawi in 2018. In addition to providing emergency assistance, we also hope that the local people can become self-reliant. From 2018 to 2023, we started with local tribes to implement five major aspects: emergency relief after natural disasters, disaster prevention concepts and actions, coaching farmers to be self-sufficient, talent training, and educational support. These actions range from short-term emergency relief to long-term self-support. We help the people of Malawi improve their lives in stages, and also allow the people to provide additional materials to help others, which echoes SDG 1 and 2.
