Smart Education: Illuminating a Sustainable Future for Rural Communities
Yunlin County, home to the highest proportion of rural schools in Taiwan, has long faced challenges in educational equity. Since 2021, Yunlin has promoted digital transformation through three key initiatives: Smart Campus, Smart Education Center, and Smart Interactive Blackboards, ensuring that all students—regardless of location—have access to quality, future-ready learning.
All 187 public schools use smart student ID cards and a parent-teacher-student app, with a 95% parent registration rate and over 100,000 monthly logins. The Smart Education Center, supported by six technology hubs, offers hands-on programs in AI, metaverse, and smart agriculture, serving over 15,000 students annually.
In 2024, Yunlin completed full installation of smart blackboards in 2,100 classrooms and trained 5,100 teachers through scenario-based workshops. Over 85% now apply digital tools confidently to improve engagement.
This initiative aligns with SDG 4, 10, and 11, making smart education a catalyst for inclusive and sustainable learning transformation in rural Taiwan.
