One Team, One Goal: Sustaining Taichung Veterans General Hospital's COVID-19 Response through Cross-Functional Collaboration
In response to the COVID-19 epidemic, the Ministry of Health and Welfare established the Central Epidemic Command Center on January 20, 2020. The hospital superintendent immediately instructed on the same day to activate the "Epidemic Prevention Response Command System". The superintendent served as the commander, the medical vice superintendent served as the deputy commander and speaker, and a secretariat (Medical Affair Department) was created to coordinate planning and execution. Cross-site integration involved the executive department, logistics department, and administrative department to run as.
When the command system was launched, an "Epidemic Prevention Team LINE Group" was established, and the implementation progress of epidemic prevention was uploaded to the cloud every week. The "Epidemic Prevention executive meeting” was held every week, chaired by the superintendent, to decide the direction of epidemic prevention, and the vice superintendent presided over the "Epidemic Prevention Coordination meeting after the meeting" to discuss detailed operation planning. Various information channels were built according to different objects-"Announcement on Epidemic Prevention (colleagues in the hospital)", "COVID-19 Special Area Webpage (public and colleagues)", "Knowledge Management Epidemic Prevention Topics (Inheritance of experience)" effectively conveyed various messages, and mobilized to carry out various epidemic prevention actions in a safe, fast and effective manner.
During the epidemic, we followed the command center's epidemic prevention policy, planned supporting measures in real time, and adjusted them flexibly any time, mainly implemented in 5 directions: 1. Decisive overseas battles, diversion of diagnosis and treatment; 2. Infection control, drills and audits; 3. Phased response, compartmentalization and diversion; 4. Manpower, material and equipment management; 5. Screening and drug administration, medical care and vaccination.
During the COVID-19 epidemic, Taichung Veterans General Hospital cooperated with national policies, grasped the changes in the epidemic, planned in advance, responded quickly, and worked together to build the Taichung Veterans Affairs General Epidemic Prevention Safety Network with professionalism, love, and action to protect Taiwan together.
