More Than A Collection——The Cultural Sustainability Practices of the Seden Glove Puppetry Project
The Seden Glove Puppetry Project has played an active role in preserving Taiwanese glove puppetry through the restoration of cultural assets, digital archiving, cross-disciplinary application of technology, and educational promotion:
(I) 2,132 cultural assets and artifacts were restored. Their cultural memories and interpretation were documented as well.
(II) 313 digitally archived artifacts were uploaded to the digital museum. An audiovisual database was also established to preserve historical records of traditional art performances.
(III) NYCU faculty and students design virtual reality (VR) and augmented reality (AR) puppetry experiences. Participants can practice handling various puppet characters through this immersive activity.
(IV) The launch of the book, The Puppet Master, and documentary film, "The Legacy of the Colored Pavilion," showcased Seden Foundation’s contribution to the history of Taiwanese glove puppetry.
By doing so, this project achieves the preservation of Taiwan's traditional culture, in the aspects of education (SDG Target 4.7), urban and rural development (SDG Target 11.4), and social justice (SDG Target 16.10).
