The University Sustainable Development Trend is Expanding its Social Impact

Following its successful hosting of the University Impact Conference in February of this year, the Taiwan Institute for Sustainable Energy (TAISE) in response to widespread demand from national universities hosted additional single sessions of the “University Social Impact Enhancement Workshops” on May 28th and June 4th. The events broadcast opening remarks from Minister of Education Wen-Chung Pan, with TAISE Chairman Dr. Eugene Chien serving as the Emcee. The two events enjoyed robust participation and attracted over 75 national universities with nearly 200 participants (inclusive of those online and personally attending) including Provosts, Directors of Development, and professors representing their institutions, in a joint discussion of the university sustainable development issues now of pre-eminent concern in international higher education.

Ambassador Chien remarked that all of Taiwan’s universities need to synergize with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, to elicit positive global impacts and ensure university sustainable development through the dimensions of university governance, environmental sustainability and the social interest. It is hoped that Taiwan’s universities will place their utmost interest in university governance, while concomitantly giving due regard to environmental sustainability and the public interest and civic society, while harmonizing with the UN SDGs, and serving as leaders of their initiatives, to greatly broaden and expand their influence and international visibility.

On May 28th, the International University Sustainability Trends and Impacts session attracted 151 faculty and students from 74 universities

On June 4th, the University Sustainability Report session attracted 149 faculty members and students from 75 universities
